This verse of Holy Scripture was the source of inspiration and the motivation for creating this priestly vestment. Christ the Savior is the vine, and the apostles — and through them, we as well — are the branches. The branches cannot bear fruit without the vine because they are dead; only the branches that draw their life from the vine bear fruit. Just as a holy father of the Church said: Without God, I am nothing.
