Embroidered Epigonation with Saint John Chrysostom – symbol of wisdom and eloquence

This divine Father of ours, John Chrysostom, was a great enlightener and teacher of the world. He did not overlook injustice and did not show favoritism to people. He even rebuked Empress Eudoxia for her wrongdoings, including the tyrannical way in which she took the life of a widow named Calitropia.

For this reason, John Chrysostom was exiled twice from his see. Each time, he was called back to his flock. The third and final time, he was sent to Cucus. From there, he was taken to Aravissos, and then to Pitius.

These towns lacked basic necessities and were constantly preyed upon by the Isaurians, their neighbors. In Pitius, this great Father and “angel in the flesh” was called by the Lord. He departed to the eternal dwellings in the year 407.

His holy relics were buried in Comana, alongside the relics of the holy martyrs Basiliscus and Lucian.
