Embroidered Epigonation with Saint Stephen the Great

Blessed are those whose transgressions have been forgiven, and whose sins have been covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute sin, and in whose mouth there is no deceit.
(Ps. 31, 1-2)

One of these blessed ones was the great Voivode Stephen the Great of Moldavia (1457–1504), whom the people also called “honorable,” good, great, and holy. “Good” for his acts of mercy and forgiveness toward those who had sinned; “great” for the skill with which he ruled the country justly, as through him God punished the greedy and traitorous; “holy” for his battles defending all of Christendom, as well as for the numerous churches and monasteries he built and endowed with all necessities for the glory of God and the salvation of the faithful.

Therefore, his canonization by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church on June 20, 1992, was the fulfillment of a deed pleasing to God and in accordance with the devotion of the faithful people. He is a radiant icon for all the faithful, a protector of the founders of holy places, and of those who strive for the triumph of the Cross and Christ’s love for humanity.
