The good Lord, seeing humankind tormented by the devil, had mercy on them. He sent the Archangel Gabriel to say to the Mother of God: “Rejoice, full of grace, the Lord is with you!” And immediately our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son and Word of God, was conceived in her most pure womb. When nine months had passed since the conception, a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole world should be registered, and Quirinius was sent to Jerusalem to carry out the registration. Thus Joseph, the guardian of the Mother of God, went with her to be registered in Bethlehem. When the time came for the Virgin to give birth, they could not find an inn, for there were many people; therefore, she entered a humble cave and there gave birth, without corruption, to our Lord Jesus Christ. She wrapped Him as an infant and laid Him in a manger among the cattle. There, among the animals, they placed the Creator of all, for He had come to save us from corruption.
